This policy explains what happens to information when you use CustomNameTrace. We've tried to write it in plain language rather than dense legal boilerplate, because the actual answer to "is my data safe" is simpler here than on most sites: there's very little data to begin with.
The short version
We do not require an account to use this site. We do not store the names, numbers, or other text you type into a worksheet. There is no database of user-submitted content behind this site — worksheet text you enter is used to generate a live preview or a PDF in a single request/response cycle and is not written to a database, log file, or backup afterward. What we don't collect
We do not ask for your name, your child's name (beyond using it transiently to render a worksheet), your email address, or any account credentials, because there's no account system. We do not sell, rent, or share personal information, because we don't collect it in a form that could be sold in the first place. We do use Google Analytics and Google AdSense, described in full below — neither of those sees the text you type into a worksheet field, since that's never sent anywhere beyond the single request that renders your preview or PDF.
What does happen when you use the editor
When you type into a worksheet field, your browser sends that text to our server to render a live preview or generate a PDF. That request is processed and a response is sent back; the text itself is not persisted to disk on our server after that request completes. The "Copy shareable link" feature encodes your current style choices (not personal text, by design — see below) into a URL that lives only in your browser or wherever you paste it; we never see or store that link unless you choose to send it to us directly.
One deliberate design rule worth calling out: worksheet text is never added to a public, indexable URL or our sitemap. Style and layout choices can appear in a shareable link's query string, but that link is marked non-indexable and excluded from our sitemap — a child's name should never end up crawled by a search engine because of how a link was constructed.
Local storage in your browser
Some parts of the site use your browser's local storage to remember lightweight preferences — for example, a form field you were mid-way through typing, so a page refresh doesn't lose your work. This data lives only in your own browser, is never transmitted to us, and can be cleared at any time through your browser's settings. It is not a tracking mechanism; it doesn't identify you, and it isn't shared across devices or with any other visitor.
Cookies and third-party services
This site loads a small number of third-party resources to function: Google Fonts (for the handwriting fonts used in worksheets) and a CDN-hosted copy of the Bootstrap CSS/JS framework. Loading these resources means your browser makes a direct request to Google's and the CDN provider's servers, which may log standard technical information (like your IP address) the same way any web request does — that's governed by those providers' own privacy policies, not ours, and we don't control or see that data.
Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand aggregate traffic patterns — which pages get visited, roughly how many people use the site, and similar site-level usage trends. Analytics is loaded on every page and sets its own cookies to distinguish visits; it does not see the text you type into a worksheet field, since that's never sent to Analytics or any third party. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Google AdSense. This site displays advertising through Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies to serve ads, including ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can learn about and opt out of personalized advertising through Google's Ads Settings and the Digital Advertising Alliance. As with Analytics, AdSense has no access to worksheet text you type — ad targeting is based on general browsing signals, not on anything you enter into the editor.
Children's privacy (COPPA and similar laws)
This site is a tool that parents, teachers, and other adults use to create printable worksheets — it is not directed at children as its primary audience, it has no account system, no chat or messaging feature, and no way for a child to submit information on their own. Under the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and comparable laws elsewhere, we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13, and this site is not designed to solicit it.
Text an adult enters into a worksheet field — including a child's first name, or (on the Family & Safety Info worksheet) a parent's name and phone number for a child to memorize — is used only to render that specific worksheet. It is not stored, not associated with an identity, not used to build a profile, and not used for any purpose beyond generating the preview or PDF requested in that one request. As covered above, none of it is written to a database or kept after that request completes.
If you're a parent, guardian, or educator and believe a child has submitted personal information to us some other way, contact us using the details below and we will delete it — though given the architecture described in this policy, there should be no such data to find.
Server logs
Like virtually every web server, our infrastructure may keep standard technical logs (such as request timestamps, IP addresses, and error messages) for a limited period, purely for security and debugging purposes — diagnosing an outage or an abuse pattern. These logs are not used to build user profiles and are not linked to the content of the worksheets you create.
Your rights under GDPR and similar laws
If you're in the EU, UK, or another jurisdiction with a data-protection law like the GDPR, you have rights over your personal data — access, correction, deletion, restriction of processing, portability, and objection, among others. In practice, because we don't maintain accounts or a database of your personal content, there is generally nothing for us to look up, correct, or export when you ask — we simply don't have it. The one place personal data briefly exists is in server logs kept for a limited period for security and debugging (see below); our legal basis for that limited processing is legitimate interest in keeping the site running and secure.
If you believe we're holding information about you that this policy doesn't account for, contact us using the details below and we'll look into it directly. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Changes to this policy
If we change what data this site collects — most likely by adding analytics or activating advertising — we'll update this page and change the "Last updated" date above. We won't make a material change to how we handle personal information without reflecting it here first.
