The final quarter of the First 100 Words words
Group 4 completes the full First 100 Words word set on this site, following Group 3. A child who's worked through all four groups here has covered the complete First 100 Words vocabulary, ready to move on to the next hundred in the list.
Where the First 100 Words list fits in the full 1,000
The First Hundred covers Fry words #1 through #100, the most frequent words in the English language — together they make up roughly half of everything printed in English, which means a reader who knows just these 100 words already recognizes about half of the words on a typical page. Almost all of them are short function words (articles, pronouns, conjunctions, prepositions) rather than words with a concrete, picture-able meaning, which is exactly why they're taught by sight rather than by sounding out: a word like "the" or "of" doesn't decode cleanly using regular phonics rules, but it shows up on nearly every line of text a child will ever read.
Using this worksheet effectively
Once all four groups feel solid, a brief cumulative review — mixing words from all of them together rather than group by group — confirms the full First 100 Words set is genuinely secure. Every worksheet here downloads as a free, print-ready PDF with no account required.
