About names in France
French naming law only lifted most of its restrictions on given names in 1993 — before that, French parents were largely required to choose from an official list of approved names, mostly saints' names and other traditional French names, with a mayor able to reject a name deemed not to be in the child's interest. A cultural preference for names that read clearly as French has persisted even as the legal rules loosened, and a notable recent trend has been the return of "grandparent generation" names — Louise and Jules are good examples — after decades in which they were considered old-fashioned by French parents naming children in the mid-twentieth century.

Print at full size, hand a child a pencil, and let them work down the page one row at a time — the task gets a little longer on each row as the name grows, which naturally paces the practice without needing a timer or instructions.
